Reach Out - Street food program

This is my 2nd time partcipate in Reach Out Street food program. Reach Out was formed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in April, 2008. It offered food, drinks, clothing, and basic medical first aid to those in need in Kuala Lumpur and its surrounding States.

Meeting up with Sim Lan and Kee for a "fish lunch" at Kota Damansara. We arrived at reach-out station for food packaging at 3pm. Packaging has started and without a second we were given our role to help out. Get a plastic bag, put in a pack nasi lemak, 1 bottle mineral water, 1 orange, 1 bread, 1 piece of cake and with an additional sponsor of a package of Vitamin C. The group is working very fast today, by 4pm everything is pack and ready. 3 of us decide to walk to uptown accross the street for a tea and fish cake before distribution. Price to pay is getting sun burn after walking under the sun for about 5 minutes @@

There are 2 venues for food distribution, Klang Bus Stand (at Pasar Seni LRT Station) and Pudu. Since Kee and I had been pasar seni the last round, today's we go to Pudu. It works slightly different compare to Klang Bus Stand. A volunteer from Pudu, uncle Ken who support the activity for more than 5 years, will be there half an hour earlier to distribute the number. When the food arrived, number will be call, give out the pack of food and collect back the number. The distribution completed in about 40 minutes. More than 90% receival are chinese (which is very different from Klang Bus Stand), mostly are eldery, about 40% of them looks clean and tidy.

We have a chat with uncle Ken, what i remember most is when he said "we can't give up the effort just because some people are taking advantage, even they do, there must be a reason behind(家家有本难念经)..."Perhaps I'd over-analysed the whole principal of the activity, afterall the objective is to help those who are in hunger and poverty regardless race, religion, gender or culture. Even there might be a group who are taking advantage but there are more people who are beneficiary from the programme. 说到底,最终目的是能帮助到需要帮助的人.... After the programme, 3 of us meet up with Shiow Jiuan, Sen, Jess and Stanley Loke for a great dinner and marks the perfect end of a day.
